Working Together to Advance Chemical Engineering
The Association of Chemical Engineers of Serbia (SHI) is one of the founding members of the European Federation of Chemical Engineering (EFCE) and has remained an active member since its establishment.
Through this long-standing partnership, SHI contributes to the advancement of chemical engineering across Europe by bringing together experts from universities, research institutions, and industry. SHI’s representative in the EFCE General Assembly is Prof. Dr. Nikola Nikačević.
Founded in 1953, the same year as SHI, EFCE is dedicated to advancing chemical engineering by connecting professionals, researchers, and industrial experts throughout Europe. Its mission includes promoting innovation, education, and collaboration between academia and industry while supporting the development of sustainable technologies and interdisciplinary cooperation. EFCE Awards
EFCE recognizes outstanding achievements in chemical engineering through a range of prestigious awards that celebrate excellence in research, innovation, education, and industrial practice.
Since 1999, EFCE has presented the Dieter Behrens Medal and the Jacques Villermaux Medal, while the Lifetime Achievement Award and the Danckwerts Lecture honor individuals who have made exceptional contributions to chemical engineering and related sciences.
ECCE i ECAB
EFCE organizes the European Congress of Chemical Engineering (ECCE) together with the European Congress of Applied Biotechnology (ECAB) every two years.
These international congresses provide a leading platform for presenting cutting-edge research, exchanging knowledge, networking with professionals, and discussing the latest developments in chemical engineering and biotechnology. EFCE also sponsors numerous scientific and professional conferences across Europe.
EFCE Spotlight talks
EFCE hosts a series of free online lectures called Spotlight Talks, where leading experts discuss the latest scientific discoveries, emerging technologies, and current topics in chemical engineering.
Recordings of previous lectures are freely available through the EFCE website, allowing professionals, researchers, and students to access valuable knowledge at any time.
EFCE Working Parties – Networks of Expertise
EFCE Working Parties (WPs) bring together leading scientists and industry professionals specializing in specific areas of chemical engineering.
Currently, more than 20 Working Parties cover topics including reaction engineering, electrochemical engineering, separation processes, multiphase systems, process intensification, and many other specialized fields.
These expert groups organize conferences, workshops, and scientific meetings, promote international collaboration, support knowledge exchange, and contribute to the development of best practices within the profession. They also recognize outstanding scientific achievements through specialized awards.
